‘Keep Shining’ is the latest progressive pop song from Swedish duo Slide, who have previously graced TMR with a string of evolving tracks. Recent release ‘Hello Spirit’ and this new single belong to their forthcoming EP, Things I Tell Myself, which is out July 31st. It’s that EP title that we find connecting most poignantly on ‘Keep Shining’ which revolved around the chorus “Blow smoke, / Keep shining, / Make your money then die, / Blow smoke, / Keep trying, / One day you’ll be fine,” which is a no-frills piece of advice and reassurance around the future. It represents the two mixed emotions - hope and fear - that plagues the minds of young people as they look towards the future. It’s also an unavoidably catchy chorus thanks to the simple-yet-effective piano chord basis, elastic bass, dynamic beats and a warm production that even makes the line “shut the fuck up right now” sound inviting. If ‘Keep Shining’ gets the right amount of limelight, this could very well be the turning point for Slide. - Hannah Thacker
